Back in the summer of 2007, I was in Las Vegas for a journalism convention (good times). I flew in early so I could do an interview with the then-head of the airport and take one of those great, behind-the-scenes #avgeek tours. I was invited to go on the roof of one of the terminals to check out the view. I decided to ignore my fear of heights and I got this and many other shots. Enjoy!
In April, I had the chance to do a tour of Terminal 3 at Las Vegas’s McCarran International Airport. One of the highlights was all the art projects around the terminal. Below is a butterfly sculpture that, if you look closely, has wings that feature airlines that have served the airport. How many carriers can you pick out? Enjoy!
Back in August 2007, I flew out to Las Vegas to do a series of stories for Aviation Daily and Aviation Week on McCarran International Airport. I love taking airport tours, because you get to be a ramp rat, seeing stuff the traveling public never gets to see. As part of that tour, I got to go to the top of the airport’s operational tower, where I snapped this shot. I also have it posted on my Facebook profile. Enjoy!
This week is the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) annual convention. I first attended this show back in 1995, and it’s been a grand love affair ever since, although I won’t be there this year. The show has 20,000+ attendees, 100+ aircraft on static display and booths large enough to house a small village.
My favorite activity, by far, is to go out to the convention airport and check out the static display. I could spend ALL day taking photos and looking at aircraft interiors. An accident with my foot at last year’s show in Atlanta didn’t allow me to get to the static display. So below is a shot of Learjet tails I took at the 2009 show in Orlando. Enjoy!!
Back in August 2007, I took trip out to Las Vegas to do a series of articles about McCarran International Airport. Weirdly enough, I have a deathly fear of heights, but I have never let it get in the way of seeing something cool.
The something cool on this day was a trip to the top of an operations tower at the airport. I managed to get this shot of some AirTran and Alaska Airlines aircraft parked at the gate. Enjoy!
